How to acquire your medical prescription in California

If you live in California like me, acquiring a medical prescription to smoke marijuana is relatively easy. You must get a doctor’s appointment for a recommendation for an ailment that requires the use of medical marijuana. The ailments can be anything from cancer to lack of appetite. All depends on what you and your doctor come to as a decision. Once your decision is decided between you and your doctor he or she will give you a medical recommendation (verbal and in writing) which will be your ticket into acquiring your medical cannabis card. There is also one step further than a medical recommendation and that is a California cannabis card but you must apply in person at California Department of Public Health in Sacramento. Link: http://www.cdph.ca.gov/programs/Pages/ContactMMP.aspx

A patient that is only looking for the doctor recommendation, the rest of the process is rather simple. Now that you have your recommendation your doctor will print out a recommendation letter that you must carry on you when you go to cannabis clubs to buy your prescriptions, when you get stopped by the police, or questioned about your medical marijuana use. You will need to have photo identification and proof of residency before your doctor will issue you your card. Make sure you bring the proper identification and paperwork to your doctor’s appointment.
Generally a medical recommendation will last for twelve months (1 year) and then you will need a re-evaluation of your condition from a medical doctor at that time. Each doctor can choose how much a recommendation will cost. Always check with the doctor before you go in order to have the appropriate funds. Depending on your city you live it will generally cost $80 to $160 for first time clients. Renewals are generally cheaper, especially if you stay with the same doctor. However in places like Venice Beach’s Boardwalk there are places that hand out flyers in order to try to draw you in with very low prices (say $40) to acquire your recommendation. These places are somewhat sketchy and some clubs may not allow you to use those doctors recommendations to purchase marijuana. If you have the choice go to a good-standing long time doctor and not the quickie recommendation places that have neon signs and promoters outside their doors. Real doctors have enough to do they won’t need to draw you in with cheap tactics. Get the right doctor and then get the good stuff!!!
